Inside the Israeli City That Sits on the Divide Between Jews and Arabs

It’s Lod, a mixed Arab-Jewish city around 15 miles from Tel Aviv, and the new front in the ­Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In Acre, and in other mixed cities where Arabs and Jews live side by side, neighbors turned on each other. When the city fell on hard times in the 1980s, Arabs moved into housing tenements vacated by Jews.
